Kitty Milo suggested we debate on who was the first to fly - Richard Pierce or the Wright Brothers?
Let me know what you think. If there is enough interest, let's do it! Also, if we do debate the topic, what would be the best format to use so both sides could present their points? Blogging? Audio files? Some other idea?
I have created a separate blog for the debate. Click below and post your positions. Happy debating!

I think blogging could be better than voice recording, because it could take a while to get our voices recorded but we know it's really easy to work on the blog:D
Although not the first to build and fly experimental aircraft, the Wright brothers were the ones who built one that could sustain flight for a longer period of time than Richard Pearces aircraft.
It is true that Richard Pearce was the first to flight a "heavier than air" plane. But the Wright brothers
plane was more developed Than Richard's, so all the attention went to the Wright brothers while Richard Pearces achievements went nearly competely unnoticed.
:-(
Richard Piece flew first.
Have a look at my evidence.
For Richard Pearse: http://www.fiddlersgreen.net/AC/aircraft/Pearse-FlyingMachine/pearse.php
For Wright Brothers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wright_brothers
wow! you use my name in one of your posts. thankyou mr teehan sir :-).
of course everyone in newzealand will think that richard pierce flew first and everyone from new jersey will think the wright brothers flew first.
i think that richard pierce flew first.he flew the first manned powered controlled flight. since new zealand is really isolated none of the world heard about it happining. you can go to this website and read my evidence

thankyou, bye
:-)
I WOULD LIKE TO LEARN HOW TO voice record and post the audio files.
[sorry didn't mean to shout]
If you want to debate, GO TO THE BLOG! (I MEANT to shout then)
The Wright Brothers were "officialy" the first ones to fly but Richard Pearce was the first to build and fly the first aircraft. Although Richard didn't think that he had accomphlished the first flight because he didn't feel he had complete control over the aircraft. The Wright Brothers plane was more developed and sophisticated. Because New Zealand was so far away from the rest of the world when some Americans flew they got all the credit bacause they lived in a popular country.
Poor Richard. He didn't get credit for somehting he did. :-(
In a book of the Wright Brothers, it said that they flew for the first time in 1903.In a biography of Richard Pearse,it said he flew first in 1904. In that biography Richard Pearse even claimed that he flew after the Wright Brothers.
Richard Pearse appears to have flown and landed a powered air machine on March 31, 1903 nine months before the Right Brothers.
Hi
Kitty milo I think your right about people from new jersey thinking that the Wright brothers did flew first and people from new Zealand will think that Richard Pearce flew first but actually there is a couple of people from my class think Richard Pearce flew first. A lot of the people who blogged said that Richard Pearce didn't have the fact that he flew get around but it could have worked the other way, too. i think that new Zealand didn't hear that the Wright brothers flew than when Richard Pearce flew they thought he flew first.
hi iluvhenry1219, there are also afew people from my class that think the wright brothers flew first to. i think that richard pierce did. who do you think flew first?
Hi there,
Sorry to interrupt your blog. I am a teacher in New Zealand and think what you're doing is a great idea.
Your class seems especially interested in what the Maori language sounds like. Here is a website that has voice recordings so that you can hear what it is like: www.korero.maori.nz
I hope you enjoy it!
PS 'korero' means talk or speak in Maori
i think the way to figure this out is both groups that think the wright brothers did it or richard peirce should get a peice of evidence each and put a link and that page then we can discuss and if you cant find any well that would stink.
